Windscreen Replacement
May 20th, 2008Broken windscreens will make your vehicle un-roadworthy. Damages to the windscreen such as chips or cracks are common occurrences and are not easily avoidable during the normal day to day running of your vechile.
The windscreen (also known as the windshield) of an aircraft, automobile, bus, motorcycle, or tram is the front window. Contemporary windshields are generally made of laminated safety glass, which consists of two (typically) curved sheets of glass with a plastic layer laminated between them for safety, and are glued into the window frame.
Motorcycle windshields or windscreens are clear glass or plastic structures mounted in front of the motorcycle with the primary goal to guard the rider from wind, as well as from airborne hazard, such as rain. A windscreen may be either mounted separately or be an integral part of the motorcycle fairing.
Full Windscreen Replacement is more time consuming and costlier than repairing it. All service centers first point of call is to repair the customers existing windscreen before replacing it with a new one, usually saving customers time and money. Sometimes though, the type, size and position of the damage will mean that the whole windscreen needs to be replaced.
Damage to the car windscreen or stone chip damage of car or vehicle windscreen will only get worse if neglected. However stone chips to car windscreens can be repaired by means of resin injection and most insurance companies will pay the full cost of a car windscreen repair. This not only prevents the damage from getting worse, it also saves the expense of having to pay any glass excess required for a replacement of car windscreen.
After replacing a windshield, 1-hour drive away times are common (meaning that after an hour, you can drive the car, and the windshield is guaranteed to stay in place). However, it can take 8-24 hours for the adhesive to fully dry. This means that in some types of collisions (rollovers or head-on collisions), the windshield could pop off, causing the roof to crush more easily, or airbags not to function properly (as they use the windshield for support). Replacement and repair of windshields includes the vehicle types like Trucks, Vans, Buses, Lorries, Coaches, Mini Buses etc
Often people are confused when they have to choose between windscreen repairs and replacements. Often people are misguided and go for replacements when a mere repair would have been sufficient. This is because replacements are more profitable to the firms. So it’s up to the customer to make the necessary enquiries pertaining to the services available. A good windscreen expert is sure to give a proper decision about the course of action to be followed. Sometimes there are occasions when the insurance companies will also recommend replacements due to certain liaisons and tie-ups with the manufacturing firms. It is the customer who should take the decision during such occasions.
The customer is the king and he should be the decision maker and not the decision taker. So it is up to him to decide whether or not to replace his windscreen after making proper consultations with the windscreen experts. Also the decision to replace the windscreen should depend upon the automobile in question. A customer should never consent to anything that may compromise the safety and security of his or her vehicle.
