Car Window Tinting in Milton Keynes, Luton and Bedford: Privacy Tinting for your Windscreen and Car Windows

Whilst we originally started out as a windscreen repair company, over the years we have expanded our expertise into a variety of car and vehicle-related services including car window tinting, also known as privacy tinting, although they are slightly different.

What is privacy tinting?

Privacy tinting is the process of tinting a vehicles’ windows to match the look and feel of factory-produced privacy glass. ‘Privacy glass’ (often referred to as ‘factory tint’).  is glass that is dyed with pigment and darkened during manufacturing, and is usually made and fitted by the automotive company during the manufacture of the car or vehicle. It may, however, be installed post-production.

Privacy tinting your windscreen or side windows can be made to match the shade of your car’s privacy glass. For example, if privacy glass was already fitted on your rear windows, it can be easily matched with a privacy tint on your front windows for a more cohesive aesthetic.

Whilst privacy tinting only mimics the original factory-made privacy glass, it is a much faster and cost-effective solution.

However, if you decide that you would like privacy glass fitted to your car, the best process would be to contact the factory to request some to be made. Having to contact the car manufacturer can be time-consuming and expensive, so this is why many opt for privacy tinting versus putting in an order for custom-made windows.

What is car window tinting?

Car window tinting is the process of applying a tint film to the inside of the glass surface of a car window. It may also refer to the percentage or shade of the tint (eg. 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%). As well as reducing glare and protecting from heat and UV rays, the car window tint film will darken the window to the shade of your choosing.

If you are not concerned about the aesthetic tint, you can get clear car window tint films, simply for their protective quality, and prevent you and your belongings from being damaged or bleached by the sun.

Car window tinting is different to privacy tinting in that, rather than the windows themselves being treated, it is only a film that is applied, meaning that there is more flexibility to remove the tint in the future, if you wish.

Do bear in mind that privacy glass is usually placed on a car’s back windows, and occasionally may be applied in a thin strip around the outside of the windscreen. However legally you cannot have privacy glass or privacy tinting fitted across your whole windscreen since it could severely reduce visibility, especially at night, and could be dangerous for yourself and other drivers. This is to promote better safety by allowing you to see properly (especially at night), and to help police identify drivers.

This is because privacy tinting, like original privacy glass, blocks out some light from the sun to create the darker effect that helps give you and your passengers your privacy. However, most other car window tinting (clear tinting included, of course) is available for all car windows.
